Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS), opened on 16 September 1916, is the main air gateway of the Netherlands and one of Europe’s most important hub airports. Terminals
Schiphol operates under a “single-terminal” concept, where all facilities are integrated under one roof, divided into three main departure halls (1, 2 and 3) that connect to the various piers (B to M). The terminal remains open 24 hours a day and is arranged across three main levels:
- Ground Floor (Schiphol Plaza): Public area housing arrivals, the railway station, bus stops, and an extensive shopping and dining zone.
- First Level: Check-in desks and security screening areas.
- Second Level: Transit areas, lounges, rest zones, and access to the Panorama Terrace observation deck.
Annual Traffic (2025): 68.8 million passengers.
Information Points
Information desks and digital assistance points are available both in the public area (Schiphol Plaza) and in the post-security zones (Departure Halls 1, 2 and 3). Assistance staff, identifiable by their yellow uniforms, circulate throughout the terminal to answer questions. In addition, the airport provides support through its official app and direct chat contact points on its website.
Location
The airport is located in the municipality of Haarlemmermeer, 9 km (5.5 miles) south-west of Amsterdam, next to the A4 motorway, which connects the city with The Hague and Rotterdam.

The airport offers a wide range of parking options to suit different needs and budgets, from quick drop-off zones to long-term stays and valet services with 24-hour surveillance. It is recommended to book online in advance to ensure availability and secure lower rates.
Drop-off Zone (Kiss & Ride)
Located in front of the Departures Halls, this is an area exclusively for dropping off passengers quickly. Vehicles may stop only for the time strictly necessary to unload luggage. Parking or waiting is not permitted; to accompany passengers inside or to pick up arriving passengers, P1 parking must be used.
P1 Parking
This is the closest car park, located just a 2–6 minute walk from the terminal via a covered walkway. It is divided into two options depending on your needs:
- P1 Pick-up & Drop-off: Ideal for short stays (passenger pick-up). No prior reservation is required, although it is recommended.
- P1 Holiday Parking: An option for stays of 48 hours or more. An online reservation is mandatory to access this option.
- Facilities: Includes electric vehicle charging stations and parking spaces for passengers with reduced mobility.
P3 Long Term Parking
The most economical alternative for extended stays. It is divided into a covered garage (Sheltered) and an outdoor parking area (Unsheltered).
- Connection: A free shuttle bus service operates 24 hours a day between the car park and the terminal. Buses run every 10 minutes and the journey takes approximately 5 minutes.
- Facilities: Electric charging points are available in the covered garage.
P6 Valet Parking
The official valet service combines speed and convenience. It is located just a 2-minute walk from the terminal.
- Procedure: You hand over your keys at the P6 desk and staff will park the vehicle in a secure, monitored area. Upon arrival, a video scan of the vehicle’s condition is carried out for added security.
- Options: You can choose between covered or outdoor parking. The vehicle will be ready for collection at the same location upon your return.
Privium Parking
Exclusive to Privium programme members, it offers preferential locations in the Privium 1 (next to the terminal) and Privium Excellence areas, designed for frequent travellers seeking maximum comfort and speed.
Facilities for passengers with special needs
Schiphol Airport is fully equipped to ensure a comfortable and safe journey for passengers with reduced mobility (PRM), hearing, visual or invisible disabilities. Assistance is free of charge and provided by specialised staff who will accompany you from your arrival at the airport to your seat on the aircraft (or vice versa).
Assistance Request
To ensure the availability of the service and avoid delays, it is essential to request assistance through your airline or travel agency at least 48 hours before your flight’s departure. If you do not make the advance request, staff will do their best to help you, but you may experience longer waiting times.
Meeting Points
Upon arrival at the airport, you must announce yourself at one of the designated call points (assistance columns) so that an assistant can come to meet you. These are located at:
- Train Station (Schiphol Plaza): On the platforms and in the main hall.
- Bus Stops: Near the bus bays.
- Car Parks: In the reserved areas of car parks P1 and P3.
- Departures Halls: At the check-in counters and information desks.
Invisible Disabilities
Schiphol recognises the Sunflower Lanyard programme. If you have an invisible disability (such as autism, anxiety or dementia), you may wear this distinctive green lanyard. This allows airport staff to discreetly identify that you may need more time, patience or additional assistance during security and boarding procedures. You can request it at the information desks.
Facilities and Services
- Infrastructure: The airport offers spacious lifts, ramps, automatic doors and moving walkways in all terminals.
- Toilets: Wheelchair-accessible toilets are available in all areas, clearly signposted.
- Hearing: Information counters and key service points are equipped with induction loops for passengers using hearing aids.
- Parking: Reserved spaces located as close as possible to the terminal in P1 (short stay/pick-up) and P3 (long stay). A European or international disabled parking card must be visibly displayed on the dashboard.
