Overnight layover guide. Sleeping facilities in the public zone or boarding area
Spending the night at Bergen Airport is a viable option for travellers with very early flights or overnight connections, although it requires some preparation due to the limited comfort and services available during the early morning hours.
Sleeping at the Airport
- Stay conditions: The airport allows overnight stays for passengers who can present a valid airline ticket. It is important to note that once the security checkpoint closes (generally after the last flight), you must remain in the public area (Landside) until it reopens at 4:00 am.
- Light and noise levels: The terminal remains brightly lit throughout the night and cleaning work is carried out using machinery, so the use of an eye mask and earplugs is recommended.
- Temperature: The environment can become quite cold during the Norwegian night, even inside the terminal. It is advisable to have blankets or suitable warm clothing.
Rest Areas
Although most seating in the common areas has metal armrests that make lying down difficult, there are some strategic spots:
- Departures Level: Near the check-in areas, you can often find a few benches without dividers and carpeted floor areas that are preferred by travellers with sleeping bags.
- Arrivals Level: There are some wooden benches and quieter areas near the vending machines on the ground floor.
- Reclining chairs: Areas with more comfortable, reclining seats have been reported in the transition zones between levels, although availability is limited.
Luggage and Security
There is no left luggage service, but you can check in your bags up to 24 hours before your flight if you are travelling with Norwegian, SAS or Widerøe. If you choose to sleep in public areas, make sure to keep your belongings secure, preferably attached to you.
Food and Connectivity
- Food and Drink: All restaurants and cafés close overnight. The only options available 24 hours a day are vending machines offering snacks and drinks throughout the terminal.
- Wi-Fi: The free service is available for a 4-hour period, after which it is possible to reconnect by logging in again.
Accommodation Alternatives
If you prefer an uninterrupted night’s rest, the Clarion Hotel Bergen Airport is physically connected to the terminal, and the Comfort Hotel Bergen Airport is just a 2-minute walk away.
