Spending the Night at the Airport

It is essential for travellers to be aware that Ciampino Airport closes overnight, approximately between 12:00 am and 4:00 am. Unlike other international airports, passengers are not allowed to remain inside the terminal once the last flight has departed, and security staff usually clear the facilities. You will only be allowed to stay if you hold a valid flight ticket for the following 24 hours.

Rest Areas

• Inside the Terminal: Seating is limited, made of metal and fitted with fixed armrests, making it uncomfortable for long stays. There are no designated rest areas or carpeted zones.
• Outside Areas: Some travellers choose to wait near the entrance doors to be among the first to enter when the terminal reopens. However, there are no covered or weather-protected areas, so sleeping outdoors is strongly discouraged, especially during winter.
• Nearby Hotels: This is the most comfortable and safest option. Several hotels located within less than 1 km of the terminal offer free transfers for their guests.

Services Available Overnight

The complete suspension of commercial activities during the overnight closure severely limits available services:

• Food and Drink: There are no 24/7 food outlets. It is recommended to purchase supplies before 11:00 pm if you have a late arrival.
• Thermal Comfort: Travellers report that, even during opening hours, the terminal is often cold and draughty, so bringing warm clothing is advisable.
• Connectivity: Although Wi-Fi is free, power sockets for charging devices are very limited in public areas; carrying a fully charged power bank is recommended.
