Spending the Night at the Airport

Although Catania Airport remains open 24 hours a day, spending the night here is considered difficult by travellers due to the resting conditions. It is common for passengers with very early flights or late arrivals to decide to stay overnight, but it is recommended to bring comfort items such as earplugs, an eye mask, and a blanket or sleeping bag.

Rest Areas

Public Areas (Before Security):

• Most of the public area (Landside) is available for spending the night. However, the area is described as noisy and very bright.
• There is a shortage of seats without armrests, forcing many travellers to sleep directly on the floor, especially near the security checkpoint entrance.
• The check-in zone and the security entrance are the busiest areas, although some travellers have found quieter and darker corners near the closed restaurant area on the upper level.

Boarding Areas (After Security):

• The boarding gate area (Airside) only opens once the security checkpoint begins operating, generally around 4:30 am, so it is not possible to access it during the night.
• The VIP Lounges are the best option for guaranteed rest in a calmer and safer environment, although their overnight opening times should be checked with the airline or access programme.

Services Available During the Night

Although the airport remains open, many commercial services close during the early hours of the morning. It is recommended to check the opening and closing times of specific outlets, as these may vary.

• Food and Drink: Although many restaurants close, at least one fast-food option on the upper level usually opens very early or, in some seasons, may offer service almost 24 hours a day.
• Cash Machines: Cash machines remain available 24 hours a day in the public area.
• Wi-Fi: The free Wi-Fi service may be intermittent or require the use of alternative networks (such as those of restaurants), according to travellers’ experiences.
• Security Assistance: Security staff operate throughout the night, although they may occasionally ask passengers to vacate certain areas for cleaning tasks.
