 Passenger Guide

King Shaka International Airport was opened on May 1, 2010, for that year's soccer World Cup, and therefore it is the most modern in South Africa. It operates with domestic flights and some international destinations within Africa and the Middle East.

There is an information desk on the ground floor, available around the clock (Tel +27 324 366 644), and a tourist office in the Arrivals Hall (Tel +27 324 360 013), open Mondays through Saturdays between 8:00 am and 9:00 pm and Sundays from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.

The airport is located in the town of La Mercy, 35 km (22 miles) to the north of Durban.

Public and private transportation

Bus

Private services depart from outside the International Arrivals area to the city centre and surrounding locations. Airport Bus Shuttle (Tel +27 314 655 573 / 823 409 990) leaves every 45 minutes, while Margate Mini Coach (Tel +27 393 121 406 / 824 559 736) and Southern Shuttle (Tel +27 814 757 575 / 795 719 900) operate four times a day. The trip to downtown Durban takes around 30 minutes.
