Facilities for passengers with special needs

Newark Airport is committed to providing an accessible experience for all passengers and offers a variety of services and facilities to assist travelers with disabilities or special needs.

Assistance and Wheelchairs

To ensure proper assistance, including wheelchair service, it is essential that you request it directly from your airline at least 48 hours before your flight. This will allow for the coordination of the necessary support from your arrival at the airport until boarding.

Accessibility Facilities

All terminals are equipped to facilitate traveler transit. The facilities include:

  • Access ramps, elevators, and accessible restrooms.
  • Telephones and water fountains at an accessible height.
  • Reserved parking spaces in all parking lots.
  • Designated areas for service animals (Pet Relief Areas).
  • The AirTrain and airport buses are fully accessible.

Sunflower Program

For passengers with non-visible disabilities (such as autism, anxiety, among others), the airport participates in the Sunflower program. You can request the sunflower lanyard for free at the information desks so that airport staff can discreetly identify that you may need more support, patience, or time.

Visual Assistance (Aira)

The airport offers free access to the Aira service, an app that connects blind or low-vision passengers with professional agents who can provide visual assistance through the mobile phone's camera to navigate the airport.
