Overnight layover guide. Sleeping facilities in the public zone or boarding area

Please note that some published services and schedules may be subject to change. If the idea is to spend the night in the public area, consider a plan B in case the stay inside the airport is only allowed for those who are about to board.

Faro Airport remains open 24 hours a day, allowing passengers with early-morning flights to spend the night inside the terminal. However, it is important to note that, for security reasons, passengers who are already airside are usually asked to move to the public (landside) area once security checkpoints close during the night.

Where to rest

Most travellers choose the benches located in the departures area, near the check-in counters. Some of these seats do not have armrests, making it easier to lie down. If the benches are occupied, the floor is a common alternative, although it is cold and hard, so bringing a sleeping mat or sleeping bag is recommended. Corners near closed cafés in the public area tend to be the quietest spots.

Climate and comfort

Even during the summer months, the air conditioning system often operates at full power overnight, making the ambient temperature quite low. Having warm clothing or a travel blanket is essential. In addition, the airport can be noisy due to cleaning activities and public address announcements, so the use of earplugs and an eye mask is highly recommended.

Food and 24-hour services

Food & drink: Most food outlets close between 10:00 pm and 6:00 am. Snack and drink vending machines are available throughout the terminal to cover basic needs during the night.

Connectivity: Wi-Fi access is free and unlimited, making it easy to stay entertained during waiting hours.

Luggage: For added convenience, you can use the automatic luggage lockers located next to car park P5, available 24 hours a day, allowing you to rest without worrying about your bags.

Security

The airport is generally safe to spend the night in. Security staff regularly carry out patrols and may ask to see your passport or flight reservation to confirm that you are a transit passenger.

Hotels

Although the airport does not have hotels within its premises, there are several accommodation options located nearby that allow travellers to reach the terminal either on foot after a short walk or by taxi in just a few minutes. These options are ideal for passengers with early morning flights or technical stopovers.

Nearby Accommodation

  • Hotel 3K Faro Aeroporto: The most established and closest full-service hotel option (3-star); it offers a swimming pool and modern rooms just 700 metres from the terminal, allowing safe pedestrian access.
  • Walk in Hostel Faro Airport: Located just 500 metres away, this is the most economical and practical alternative for young travellers or those on a tight budget looking to maximise rest time before their flight.
  • Fly House Faro: This guest house stands out for offering a more private and welcoming atmosphere, making it ideal for those who prefer the tranquillity of a residential-style accommodation less than a 10-minute walk away.
  • Sleep & Go Faro Airport Guest House: As its name suggests, it is specifically designed for short transit stays, offering a streamlined check-in process and a strategic location to avoid early-morning traffic stress.
  • Ria Formosa Guest House: Allows passengers to enjoy proximity to the natural surroundings of the lagoon and a quiet environment, ensuring quality rest without moving far from the airport’s operational area.
