Car Hire at Florence airport (FLR)

Car rental offices are not located inside the terminal, but in a dedicated area known as Palagio degli Spini. To make transfers easier, the airport provides a free courtesy shuttle bus service that connects the terminal with the car rental area every 20 minutes. The shuttle bus stop is located in the short-stay car park, just outside the terminal building.

Requirements to rent a vehicle

To rent a car, you will generally need to meet the following requirements:

• Driving licence: You must present a valid driving licence with a minimum holding period (usually 1 to 2 years). If your licence was not issued in a European Union country, you are required to present an International Driving Permit together with your national licence.
• Minimum age: Most rental companies require drivers to be at least 21 years old. Please note that drivers under 25 are often subject to a "young driver surcharge".
• Credit card: A credit card (debit or prepaid cards are usually not accepted for this purpose) in the main driver’s name is required to block the security deposit.
• Identity documentation: A valid original passport or national identity card.
• Reservation: Although it is possible to rent on arrival, making an advance reservation is recommended to ensure vehicle availability and obtain better rates.
