Sleeping inside or in nearby hotels (GIG)
Possibility to spend the night at Rio de Janeiro Galeão Airport (GIG), if open 24 hours. Services available, places to rest (free resting zones), or look for the list of nearby hotels and vip lounges.
Overnight layover guide. Sleeping facilities in the public zone or boarding area
RIOgaleão Airport operates 24 hours a day and allows passengers to stay overnight inside the facilities if they have an early flight or a long layover. However, since Terminal 1 is closed to commercial passenger operations, all activity and rest areas are concentrated in Terminal 2.
Where to rest
Public Area (Landside): If you have not checked in yet, you will find seating on the Arrivals and Departures levels of Terminal 2, although most seats have metal armrests that make lying down difficult. The floor surface is hard and cold, so a blanket or sleeping bag is essential.
Secure Area (Airside): Once past the security checkpoint, options improve significantly. The South Pier, which serves international flights, features designated rest areas equipped with reclining loungers where it is possible to sleep more comfortably. This area is usually quieter and darker at night.
Considerations: Air conditioning is usually very strong throughout the night; bring warm clothing. The use of earplugs and an eye mask is also recommended due to constant lighting and public address announcements.
Hotels and Privacy
If you prefer a bed without leaving the airport, you have two strategic options:
- Linx Hotel: Located next to Terminal 1, making it ideal to avoid transfers.
- Rio Aeroporto Hotel: Located on the third floor of Terminal 1 (accessible from the public area). It offers day-use rooms or hourly packages with shower access.
Luggage Storage
To rest without worrying about your bags, the Malex service is located on the Arrivals level of Terminal 2 (near Exit C).
Hours: 24 hours (subject to change; please check on site).
24-Hour Services
- Food & Beverage: Several venues remain open all night in Terminal 2, including fast food options.
- Showers: There are no free public showers. They are only available inside VIP lounges (GOL Smiles, Plaza Premium, Star Alliance) or by renting a room at the airport hotels.
- Wi-Fi: Free and unlimited connection via the "RIOGALEAO-WIFI" network.
- Other: ATMs, a pharmacy (variable hours), and baby changing areas are available throughout the night.
