Spending the night at the airport

Houston Airport (IAH) remains open 24 hours a day, allowing passengers with cancelled flights or long layovers to spend the night in the terminal. However, it is important to have a boarding pass for a flight the following day in order to remain in the secure area (post-security). The environment can be noisy due to announcements and music, so bringing earplugs or headphones is recommended.

Where to rest

Most seats in the terminals are equipped with armrests, which makes it difficult to lie down. For this reason, many travellers choose to sleep on the floor, so a blanket or sleeping bag can be very useful.

  • Recommended areas: Terminal D, near the interfaith chapel, is often one of the quietest zones at night. Terminal E has carpeted areas that offer a bit more comfort.
  • Paid options: For greater comfort and privacy, Minute Suites cabins are available in Terminal C (secure area) and can be rented by the hour. In addition, the Houston Airport Marriott is connected to the terminals via the underground train (public area).
  • VIP lounges: Although the airport has numerous lounges, it is important to note that they all close overnight and are not an option for sleeping through the night.

Food and drinks

Food options are very limited during the night. While most restaurants close, it has been verified that some Whataburger locations (Terminal A, post-security) and Subway (Terminal E, arrivals) often operate 24 hours. In addition, there are vending machines with snacks and drinks in all terminals.

Luggage

There are no luggage storage services or lockers available at the airport.

Hygiene

Showers: The only shower facilities are located inside The Centurion Lounge in Terminal D. Access is restricted to eligible American Express cardholders, and the lounge does not operate 24 hours.

24-hour services

  • Free and unlimited Wi-Fi access.
  • ATMs.
  • Nursing rooms and baby-changing facilities.
  • Interfaith chapels (quiet spaces to rest).
