Overnight layover guide. Sleeping facilities in the public zone or boarding area
Please note that some published services and schedules may be subject to change. If the idea is to spend the night in the public area, consider a plan B in case the stay inside the airport is only allowed for those who are about to board.
Spending the night at the airport
Gatwick airport operates many flights and connections around the world, so it's not uncommon to see late-night commuters waiting for their flight to depart. Be prepared with a sleeping mask, headphones or earplugs, as it is noisy and has lots of lights.
Where to rest: On the lower level of the terminals there are armchairs and seats without armrests that are ideal for lying down, especially near some of the cafeterias. The South Terminal tends to be quieter. If that's not for you, you have the option of staying in one of the VIP lounges, although they close at night. There are also a couple of hotels inside the South Terminal and more accommodation nearby.
Baggage: You can leave your bags at some of the baggage storage offices in both terminals. However, these close at 8:00-9:00 pm.
Eating and drinking: There are several all-night cafes in the public areas of both terminals.
Restrooms: There are showers inside some of the VIP lounges.
Wi-Fi: Free and unlimited.
Other services available around the clock: ATMs, children's playgrounds, baby changing facilities, pharmacies, prayer rooms.
