Overnight layover guide. Sleeping facilities in the public zone or boarding area
Please note that some published services and schedules may be subject to change. If the idea is to spend the night in the public area, consider a plan B in case the stay inside the airport is only allowed for those who are about to board.
Spending the night at the airport
Chennai Airport is open 24 hours a day, and although it is a bit outdated, it is a good option if you have an early morning flight or a long layover and want to save money on accommodation. Bring earplugs or headphones, as the noise is constant. Keep your belongings close and secure at all times. If you have a lock for your carry-on luggage, use it. Do not leave valuables unattended.
Where to rest: There are cushioned seats (although with armrests) in the baggage claim area. You can also find comfortable seating in the food court and in the secure area of the Anna Terminal. Consider bringing an inflatable pillow or blanket for added comfort. Some of the VIP lounges on-site are open around the clock, but the maximum stay is usually 3 hours. In the Arrivals Hall of the Kamaraj Terminal, you will find sleeping pods, while there are several hotel options nearby.
Baggage: There is no baggage storage service at this airport at the moment.
Eating and drinking: Food outlets close at night, but there are vending machines in both terminals.
Restrooms: Showers are only available in some of the VIP lounges.
Wi-Fi: Free for 45 minutes.
Other services available around the clock: ATMs, baby changing rooms, prayer room.
