Overnight layover guide. Sleeping facilities in the public zone or boarding area

Please note that some published services and schedules may be subject to change. If the idea is to spend the night in the public area, consider a plan B in case the stay inside the airport is only allowed for those who are about to board.

Oslo Airport remains open 24 hours a day, allowing passengers with overnight connections or early-morning flights to spend the night in the terminal. It is considered a safe and relatively quiet airport during the night; however, it is essential to bear certain aspects in mind to improve the resting experience.

Rest Areas

Although there are no designated rest areas with beds, travellers often find shelter in different parts of the building:

  • Arrivals Area: On the lower level, near the entrance to the train station, there are a few benches without armrests and reclining seats that are highly sought after.
  • Food Outlets: Some cafés and restaurants in the boarding area have padded benches. These can be used once the venues have closed, provided they are not cordoned off by cleaning staff.
  • Baggage Claim Area: If you have just landed and have not left the secure area, there are long, comfortable sofas in this section.
  • Chapel: Located on the upper level, it offers a quiet and sheltered environment for those seeking tranquillity.

Important Considerations

Temperature: The terminal tends to be quite cold during the night, even in summer, due to the air-conditioning system. Bringing a travel blanket or suitable warm clothing is recommended.

Lighting and Noise: The lights remain on at full brightness and public address announcements do not stop completely. In addition, cleaning and maintenance work is often more intensive during the early hours. The use of an eye mask and earplugs is essential.

Food and 24-Hour Services

Although most restaurants close around midnight, basic options are always available:

  • Convenience Stores: Outlets such as Point usually operate 24 hours a day in both the public and boarding areas, offering snacks, drinks and coffee.
  • Connectivity: Free Wi-Fi is available (the “AIRPORT” network) with renewable 4-hour sessions. You will find charging stations and power sockets located near the boarding gates and in work areas.
  • Luggage: For a more comfortable rest, you can use the lockers located in car park P10 to store your checked or carry-on luggage until check-in.

If you prefer uninterrupted rest and greater privacy, the Radisson Blu Airport Hotel is directly connected to the terminal, allowing you to sleep in a standard room and return to the departures area within minutes.
