Transportation

Oslo Airport has one of the most efficient public transport networks in Europe, connecting the terminal with the city centre and various regions of Norway via high-speed trains, express buses and regional services.

Trains

The railway station is located directly beneath the arrivals hall. It is the fastest option for travelling to the city centre.

  • Flytoget (Airport Express Train): This high-speed service connects the airport with Oslo Central Station (Oslo S) in approximately 19–22 minutes. It operates every 10 to 20 minutes. The route extends to towns such as Drammen, Asker, Sandvika and Lillestrøm. You can check timetables and purchase tickets on its official website.
  • Vy (Regional Trains): All Vy regional train lines running between Skien, Oslo, Lillehammer and Trondheim pass through Oslo Airport. They are a more economical option than the express train and take around 23 minutes to Oslo S. The main lines include RE10, RE11 and R12. Information and tickets are available at vy.no.

Both services operate from very early in the morning until after midnight. Tickets can be purchased from ticket machines at the station, via their respective apps or on their websites.

Buses

There is a wide range of bus services connecting the airport with the capital and surrounding municipalities.

  • Flybussen: An express service with several routes (FB1, FB3, FB5, FB11) covering much of Oslo and metropolitan areas such as Majorstuen, Fredrikstad and Bekkestua. It is a comfortable option with luggage space. Services usually run every 20 to 30 minutes, and the journey to the city centre takes between 40 and 50 minutes. More details at flybussen.no.
  • Ruter: The local public transport operator. Its routes (such as 400 and 450) connect the airport with nearby areas and regional transfer points. Ruter tickets are not valid on the Flytoget train or on Flybussen services. Plan your journey at ruter.no.
  • Other routes: Operators such as Askeladden Reiser provide services to Hønefoss, while Nor-way Bussekspress, VY Buss, OSL Ekspressen and Boreal connect the airport with more distant regional destinations.
  • Hotel shuttles: VY Buss also operates a shuttle service to hotels located near the airport, with frequent departures. Tickets can be purchased on its website, via the VY app, on board the bus, or from ticket machines on the lower level of the terminal.

The main bus stop (Bussterminalen) is located next to the terminal, just a short walk from the arrivals area.

Rent a Car

Taxis

The airport operates a taxi management system to ensure fair fares. In the arrivals hall you will find self-service terminals where you can choose the company, view the fixed fares on offer and obtain a ticket with the assigned taxi number that will be waiting for you outside.

Available companies: Companies operating include Oslo Taxi, Norges Taxi and Christiania Taxi. The journey to Oslo city centre takes around 40 minutes. It is recommended to use the official machines to avoid excessive prices.

Ride-sharing

Services such as Uber operate at the airport. You must request a vehicle via the official app. The pick-up point is usually located in a designated area for private transport; follow the instructions in the app once your driver has accepted the ride.

Transportation Tips to/from the airport

Although there are issues that seem more than obvious, it is always advisable to take them into account when moving to or from the airport, and especially if we go by public transport.

1- To the airport - It is convenient to leave with a little more anticipation than what is commonly suggested. If you choose a taxi or a private car service, always take into account peak traffic times, demonstrations, strikes or events that may delay the journey to the airport from where you are. It is always good to be informed about what is happening.

If you contract a shared transfer service, have a contact telephone number handy in case of any delay by the company. In these cases they usually already have a scheduled collection time.

If you use public transport (collective, train) take into account the schedules (weekends and holidays tend to have less frequency), if you have to change and also how to board (if you need a card or paying the driver or motorist at the moment ). These are details that seem obvious, but it is advisable to know so as not to have surprises and suffer a delay that could cause complications.

If you rent a car to get to the airport, check where to leave the vehicle. At some airports, there is an exclusive parking lot for rental cars.

2 -From the airport- Here it is a little less stressful since you don't have the pressure of missing your flight. In the worst case, you will arrive later at the place where you are going to stay or at the meeting point where you are trying to arrive.

Once you leave the plane, look for your suitcase and finish with the arrival procedures that are required. Then, follow the directions for public transportation or ask the airport staff.

It is very useful to find out in advance the schedules of the buses or trains in case you arrive late at night. Not all work 24 hours. The same goes for taxis. In case of using an Uber-type service, have the mobile application handy to contact the driver.

On the other hand, if you booked a private transport service, it is likely that they will have a person waiting for you, identified with a sign. If you rent a car to go from the airport to your final destination, for greater peace of mind it is advisable to book it in advance. Rental counters are usually available in the arrivals hall.
