Passenger Guide

Salgado Filho International Airport (POA) is the main gateway to the state of Rio Grande do Sul and one of the most important airports in Southern Brazil. Originally opened in 1940, it is currently managed by Fraport Brasil. The airport went through a historical moment in 2024, when it had to close its operations for five months (from May to October) due to the severe floods that affected the region. Since its reopening, it has gradually resumed its domestic and international connectivity, operating flights to key destinations in South America, Panama, and Portugal.

Terminals
The airport complex is divided into two terminals with specific functions:
- Terminal 1 (New): Concentrates all commercial flight operations (domestic and international), check-in, and arrivals. It is a modern and spacious building.
- Terminal 2 (Old): Dedicated to general aviation, executive flights, cargo operations, and administrative functions.
Operating hours: Terminal 1 remains open 24 hours a day.
Annual Passenger Traffic: Approximately 3.9 million passengers in 2024.
Context note: This figure is significantly lower than the historical average (close to 8 million) due to the total closure of the airport between May and October 2024 caused by climate-related floods.

Parking
Salgado Filho International Airport has a parking system managed by Estapar, offering both covered and outdoor options conveniently located in front of Terminal 1. The service operates 24 hours a day.
Garage Building (Covered)
This is the primary and most convenient option. It is a multi-level building directly connected to the terminal via walkways. Ideal for protecting the vehicle from the elements and providing quick access to check-in.
Outdoor Parking (Uncovered)
Located near the garage building. It offers slightly cheaper rates for those who do not require a covered roof.
Reservations and App (Zul+):
It is recommended to manage your stay through the Zul+ app or the Estapar website. Booking in advance guarantees a space and provides access to exclusive discounts compared to walk-in rates.
Grace Period:
There is a 10-minute free grace period, designed exclusively for quick passenger drop-off and pick-up in the access lanes. Beyond this time, the full stay is charged.
Payment Methods:
The parking lot features automatic access for vehicles with toll tags (Sem Parar, Veloe, ConectCar). Self-service payment kiosks (totems) are also available inside the terminal.
Facilities for passengers with special needs
Salgado Filho International Airport (POA), managed by Fraport Brasil, features a modern infrastructure adapted to international accessibility standards and ANAC regulations (Resolution 280). Terminal 1 is designed to be barrier-free, facilitating autonomous movement.
Reduced Mobility
Facilities include ramps, spacious elevators, adapted restrooms, accessible telephones, and tactile ground surface indicators for visually impaired passengers.
Boarding and Disembarking:
Most operations are conducted via boarding bridges (jet bridges). For remote positions, the airport provides Ambulifts (elevator vehicles) that allow safe access to the aircraft without using stairs.
Requesting Assistance:
Wheelchairs and personal assistance are the responsibility of the airline. It is mandatory to request this service at the time of booking or at least 48 hours before the flight.
Hidden Disabilities
Sunflower Lanyard: The airport recognizes and promotes the use of the "Sunflower Lanyard." This badge allows for the discreet identification of passengers with hidden disabilities (autism, anxiety, dementia), ensuring that staff provide them with extra patience, support, and guidance.
Priority by Law
In Brazil, preferential service is a legal right. Priority is given in lines for check-in, security screening, and boarding to:
- People over 60 years old.
- Pregnant and breastfeeding women.
- People with infants (under 2 years old).
- People with reduced mobility or obesity.
Families
For those traveling with small children, the airport offers baby care rooms (fraldários) equipped with changing tables, sinks, and nursing chairs, located in both the public area and the departure lounge.
