San Diego Airport operates numerous domestic and international destinations, so it is not uncommon to see passengers waiting for their flight to depart at night. While its terminals are open 24 hours a day, overnight stays are only permitted in the public area once the security checkpoint closes. The site is not known for having comfortable places to rest, besides being noisy, so it is advisable to have a sleeping bag, blankets, earplugs or headphones.
Where to rest: In general, the seats are not padded and have armrests. However, some more comfortable benches can be found in the baggage claim areas. An ideal place to rest is the prayer room in Terminal 2. Another option is to use one of the VIP lounges, where you have access to greater comfort and privacy and restrooms with showers, although they are closed at night. Finally, some of the numerous hotels in the vicinity operate shuttle services.
Baggage: Luggage storage is not available. Therefore, you will have to stay with your bags until you can check in.
Eating and drinking: Most options are open between 5:00 am and 10:00 pm. Only vending machines are available at night.
Restrooms: Showers are available only in some VIP lounges, but not in public restrooms.
Wi-Fi: Free for 2-hour sessions.
Other services open around the clock: ATMs, nursing rooms, prayer room.
