Overnight layover guide. Sleeping facilities in the public zone or boarding area

Please note that some published services and schedules may be subject to change. If the idea is to spend the night in the public area, consider a plan B in case the stay inside the airport is only allowed for those who are about to board.

Lajes Airport remains open 24 hours a day, allowing passengers with early morning flights to spend the night inside the terminal. As it is a small facility shared with an air force base, the atmosphere is usually extremely quiet and safe during the night.

Where to rest

The main difficulty when trying to rest comfortably is that most of the metal seats in public and boarding areas have fixed armrests, which makes it impossible to lie down on them. For this reason, it is common to see travellers resting on the floor of the check-in area.

Recommendation: It is advisable to bring a travel mat or sleeping bag to insulate yourself from the cold floor, as well as an eye mask and earplugs, as the lighting and public address announcements usually remain active throughout the night. A light jacket is also recommended due to the air conditioning.

Overnight services

It is essential to plan food in advance, as the shops, cafés and the restaurant on the third floor close after the departure of the last scheduled flight and do not reopen until early morning. However, there are vending machines with snacks and drinks distributed throughout the terminal to cover basic needs.

Connectivity: The free and unlimited Wi-Fi service remains available throughout the night, making it easier to stay connected and entertained while waiting for your flight.

Security and luggage

The terminal is considered a very safe place to spend the night, largely due to the presence of airport police and the proximity of military facilities. However, as the airport does not offer luggage storage offices or lockers, you will need to keep your belongings under supervision at all times.
