Car Hire at Trieste airport (TRS)
List of car rental agencies that operate within the Trieste airport (TRS)
The counters of the main car rental agencies are strategically located in the arrivals hall. As this is a manageable-sized airport, vehicle pick-up is usually quick, with the rental car park situated just a few steps from the main terminal building.
Requirements for renting a vehicle
To rent a car in Italy, you will generally need to meet the following requirements:
- Minimum age: Most agencies require drivers to be at least 21 years old (in some cases 25 to avoid the “young driver” surcharge).
- Driving licence: Must be valid and issued at least one year previously. If your licence is not from a European Union country, it is mandatory to present an International Driving Permit (IDP) together with your original licence.
- Identity document: Original passport or valid national ID card (for EU citizens).
- Credit card: A credit card in the name of the main driver is required for the security deposit (excess hold). Debit cards are generally not accepted for this purpose, except under specific conditions with agencies such as Sicily By Car or Locauto.
- Insurance: Basic rental usually includes third-party liability cover, but it is recommended to check the excess for theft or damage (CDW).

5 tips for renting a car abroad
What to consider:
- Certify that you have a valid driver's license to drive in the destination country. If you are a foreigner, check if you need to validate your license in your country of origin. It should be noted that the International permit is NOT valid by itself, it must always be accompanied by the National Driver's License.
- Documentation and vehicle insurance required according to current traffic regulations.
- Take into account the traffic rules that currently apply in the destination country. Maximum speeds allowed on highways, avenues and streets, priorities of passage at intersections without traffic lights, tolerance of allowed blood alcohol, etc.
- Direction of movement and the way in which cars should be driven on the streets. If the side where the steering wheel is located in the cars of your country matches the vehicles in the destination country.
- Know the procedure to follow in case of starring in or suffering a traffic accident.
