Door-to-door transfer service

If you are looking for comfort and tranquility to move to or from Cartagena Airport, you can opt for a private transfer service.

The best option is to book online and in advance your transfer to or from the airport so that a driver will be waiting for you and you do not have to negotiate prices with cabs or transfer companies. If it is just you, you can opt for a shared transfer service (USD6.00). For families or groups, there are vehicles for 3 (USD13.70) and 6 passengers (USD24.00), and minibuses for 10 (USD35.30) and 19 people (USD60.60).

Reservations must be made at least 12 hours in advance. At the airport, the driver will be waiting for you with a sign with your name on it as soon as you leave the baggage claim area and enter the public Arrivals Hall. If you are in a hotel or apartment, the driver will wait for you outside the building. If he has the possibility to park the vehicle, he may sometimes wait for you at the reception desk.

MORE INFORMATION AND BOOKINGS

Inside the airport, you will also find different counters with private transfer companies (Guianza Express, Transfer & Travel Colombia) to Cartagena and surrounding towns, such as Manzanillo del Mar and Mompox. The individual price is usually quite high (about USD20.00 to the city center).

If you join the group transfer of other passengers (they will be dropped off according to the consistency of the route and not in order of arrival at the minibus), you will be charged a little less.

Rent a Car

Bus

Buses known as Metrocar are the public transportation option. They connect the airport with the city center. The line that makes this trip is the B Route. You will recognize them because they are white and green. It is the cheapest alternative, although the slowest and least comfortable.

Timetables
Frequent services to and from the city between 6:50 am and 11:45 pm.

Route
Crespo, Airport, Santander Av., Center - India Catalina, Castillo de Sanfelipe, Mercado de Bazurto, Crisanto Luque Av., Del Bosque Av., Bomba del Amparo.

Frequency
Buses leave approximately every 10 minutes.

Fares
A trip to the city center costs around $COP2.000.

Taxi

The airport has two authorized cab stations, one in each terminal, outside the domestic and international boarding areas.

Fares
The fare from Cartagena Airport to the historic center is $COP16,100 and to Bocagrande $COP27,500.

When you arrive on an international flight, look for the electronic machines located on the right, just past customs control. When you enter the address you want to go to, the machine issues a ticket showing the price to be paid.

If you arrive at the Domestic Terminal, there is a window on the left-hand side where you will be given a ticket when you tell them where you are going.

Travel time
As the airport is located within the urban area, distances are relatively short. Travel time to the historic center is between 10 and 15 minutes, to Getsemaní 15 minutes, and about 20 minutes to Bocagrande.

Tips
It is recommended to use official cabs, as they have fixed fares to different sectors of the city and are operated by reliable drivers.

Ride-sharing

Services such as Uber are available, although they do not have an exclusive stop (as this is exclusive for authorized cabs). Therefore, once the transfer request is made, you must coordinate with the driver the pick-up area or meeting point through the app. The rates are usually a little cheaper than cabs, although they do not have the convenience of waiting for you at the door of the terminal.

Transportation Tips to/from the airport

Although there are issues that seem more than obvious, it is always advisable to take them into account when moving to or from the airport, and especially if we go by public transport.

1- To the airport - It is convenient to leave with a little more anticipation than what is commonly suggested. If you choose a taxi or a private car service, always take into account peak traffic times, demonstrations, strikes or events that may delay the journey to the airport from where you are. It is always good to be informed about what is happening.

If you contract a shared transfer service, have a contact telephone number handy in case of any delay by the company. In these cases they usually already have a scheduled collection time.

If you use public transport (collective, train) take into account the schedules (weekends and holidays tend to have less frequency), if you have to change and also how to board (if you need a card or paying the driver or motorist at the moment ). These are details that seem obvious, but it is advisable to know so as not to have surprises and suffer a delay that could cause complications.

If you rent a car to get to the airport, check where to leave the vehicle. At some airports, there is an exclusive parking lot for rental cars.

2 -From the airport- Here it is a little less stressful since you don't have the pressure of missing your flight. In the worst case, you will arrive later at the place where you are going to stay or at the meeting point where you are trying to arrive.

Once you leave the plane, look for your suitcase and finish with the arrival procedures that are required. Then, follow the directions for public transportation or ask the airport staff.

It is very useful to find out in advance the schedules of the buses or trains in case you arrive late at night. Not all work 24 hours. The same goes for taxis. In case of using an Uber-type service, have the mobile application handy to contact the driver.

On the other hand, if you booked a private transport service, it is likely that they will have a person waiting for you, identified with a sign. If you rent a car to go from the airport to your final destination, for greater peace of mind it is advisable to book it in advance. Rental counters are usually available in the arrivals hall.
