Overnight layover guide. Sleeping facilities in the public zone or boarding area
Please note that some published services and schedules may be subject to change. If the idea is to spend the night in the public area, consider a plan B in case the stay inside the airport is only allowed for those who are about to board.
Can you spend the night at the airport?
For passengers whose flight has been delayed or rescheduled, or who have an early morning connecting or departing flight, the airport terminals remain open 24 hours a day. However, some areas of the boarding zone close at night, so if you plan to stay overnight in that area, be sure to enter or exit the proper zone before closing time. It's recommended to bring an eye mask and earplugs, as the airport remains quite active and noisy even at night. In the case of flight cancellations due to bad weather, airport staff may provide you with a cot to sleep on.
Where to rest?
According to user feedback, there are no comfortable chairs to sleep on, as all have armrests. Therefore, the best option is to sleep on the floor. For this, it’s advisable to have blankets or a sleeping bag, as the area tends to be cold. The carpeted floor in the North Terminal seems to be the most comfortable. On the other hand, there are a few slightly more comfortable chairs in the baggage claim area of the South Terminal and in Concourse D. Another option (paid or through a credit card offering access) is to use one of the VIP lounges, which provide more comfort and privacy. The
AV/TAP VIP Lounge and
Turkish Airlines Lounge in the South Terminal are open 24 hours, while the others close at night. If you want uninterrupted sleep, there are several hotels nearby, and the
Miami International Airport Hotel is located in the Central Terminal, offering half-day room rates.
Is there luggage storage?
There is a luggage storage service on the second level of Concourse E, available from 5:00 am to 9:00 pm. If you haven’t checked in yet, you’ll need to stay with your luggage overnight.
Are there 24-hour food and drink options?
Dunkin' Donuts (Concourse F) and
Subway (Concourse E) are open 24 hours. All other establishments close around 10:00–11:00 pm and reopen at 5:00 am.
Are there showers at Miami Airport?
Showers are available inside some VIP lounges.
Other services available around the clock
ATMs, baby changing facilities, children's play area.
